Major MCU Update Mean Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Box Office Record Won’t Be Broken Anytime Soon.
Taylor Swift has been taking the world by storm since she kicked off the Eras Tour in March 2023, and her record-breaking concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour won’t be dethroned as her highest-grossing (live-action) movie anytime soon following news regarding an upcoming Marvel Studios release. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which documents the singer-songwriter’s stadium world tour of the same name, debuted in theaters on October 13, 2023. After a few months, the film reeled in $267 million, surpassing Michael Jackson’s This Is It to become the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.
On March 14, 2024, Disney+ released an extended version of Swift’s film, called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), which included more performances from the concert (like “Long Live” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts”). The streaming debut gave Swift another record — Taylor Swift: The Ears Tour (Taylor’s Version) garnered 4.6 million views and 16.2 million viewing hours in its first three days on Disney+, becoming the streamer’s most-watched music film. Given all these broken records, Swift was set to continue her dominance if the rumors about her appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine were true.
Taylor Swift has been rumored to make a cameo in Marvel Studios’ 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe release, Deadpool and Wolverine. However, according to Entertainment Weekly, the pop star will not appear in the superhero flick. Despite Marvel releasing a poster for the upcoming movie featuring Ryan Reynolds’ and Hugh Jackman’s characters holding hands and wearing friendship bracelets (an Eras Tour trend), Swift didn’t find time out of her busy schedule to film Deadpool and Wolverine. Consequently, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will remain Swift’s highest-grossing live-action movie. The Lorax is technically at the top, but she only had a voice role.
